New entry: Phyllantus Acidus, the Iba of Northern Philippines

I find it surprising that the Iba (Averoha bilimbi) of Negros and Southern Philippines is not the Iba or Bankiling known in Northern Philippines. Both trees produces fruits used as souring agents in dishes. Both trees have drooping leaves and the Bankiling can be recognized from afar due to its yellowing leaves. We thank Vicky Abay for recognizing immediately the photo we posted in our Facebook group. Click on Handbook of Philippine Plants and Flowers for our interactive medium on Philippine Plants, trees and flowers.

New entry: velvet pink banana - Musa Velutina

Do you know that this "decorative" banana is actually edible? The striking pink color is the winning characteristic of this member of the banana family.
Our specimen shown grows in the cool Bgy. Alangilan of Bacolod City. I also saw it sold during an orchid show in QC Memorial circle.
