You can see this everywhere here in Pulupandan. There are plenty of this plant in my garden, the first cultivars must haven from the seeds spat out by the birds. Then from the seeds grew new plants and borne new berries that dropped and spread on the ground. Its the season now for this wild plant and the white flowers and the red berries are really a sight to see. The specimen here is from my garden and shot using my FujiFinepix S4500 cam. I will add more photos highlighting the white flowers from other specimen shot by my Samsung ST66 cam. Uses of Rivina Humilis (Wikipedia) Pigeonberry is cultivated as an ornamental in warm regions throughout the world[4] and is valued as a shade-tolerant groundcover.[6] It is also grown as a houseplant[7] and in greenhouses.[4] The juice made from the berries was used as a dye and ink at one time. The berries contain a pigment known as Rivianin or Rivinianin,[3] which has the IUPAC name 5-O-β-D-Glucopyranoside, 3-sulfate, CAS number 58115-21-2, and molecular formula C24H26N2O16S.[8] It is very similar to betanin, the pigment found in beets.[3] The fruit also contains the betaxanthin humilixanthin.[9] The juice of the berries have been tested in male rats and are reported to be safe to consume.[10] ID References: http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=RIHU2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivina_humilis
