Gallery: Spiral ginger


This photo was taken by Ritchel Alegarbes Pachica with an Iphone +6 at Bgy. Concepcion , Talisay. The specimen has an outstanding feature in that the leaves are on one side of the curved spiral shaped stem.



Until it flowers, the exact species name will be a mystery, but definitely it is a costus.

Gallery: Citharexylum spinosum , fiddlewood tree, spiny fiddlewood.

This plant belongs to the order Lamiales and family Vrbenaceae. It produces nice looking flowers and can form dense thickets for borders. This specimen photo was taken by Lola Let with an Iphone5S in Jordan, Guimaras.



But beware! This plant can be very invasive, crowding out native Philippine species. The worst characteristic of this plant is that it has aggressive roots which may destroy utility pipes.

Common names for Igyo include buntog, malabaga, bakugan and taliktan, ivory mahogany, ananangtang, bakugan, basiloag, bolong-tambag, bongliu, bundugon, buntogan, ikuo, Kugiug, makasisi, malaaduas, malabaga, tadyang-kalabaw, ivory mahogany.

First mushrooms to sprout up

Flueggia flexuosa is a synonym for Securinega flexuosa.
